Do I need a referral to make an appointment?

Yes. A current referral from a GP or another specialist is required to access specialist paediatric care and Medicare rebates. Feel free to contact us on 0408 784 345 (business hours) before or after obtaining a referral to discuss making an appointment.

How do referrals need to be sent to Tamworth Kids Health?

Referrals are welcomed via approved encrypted platforms, your referring doctor has access to these methods, you can show the below methods to your referring doctor:

Yes, please call our clinic on 0408784345 (number is staffed during business hours 9am to 5pm, 5 days) to discuss your situation, if you are unsure, or just have a question not answered here.

Question 4

Does Tamworth Kids Health have fees?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we operate as a private billing practice. Given that we offer a variety of specialized services, we encourage you to contact us at 0408 784 345  for specific fee information based on your child's referral.

Please note that approximately 30% of the fee  you pay is eligible for a refund through Medicare.

Payments are processed immediately following in-person consultations at our clinic, or prior to a Telehealth consultation.

We are committed to providing a professional and caring service, with reasonable wait times in return for your investment in your child's health.

Where are we located

We are located at 31B Dowe Street, Tamworth. There is street parking available in Dowe Street. Access to our practice is via the driveway which has a moderate slope to the side of the building. If you or your child have a mobility issues please call us on 0408784345 for assistance prior to your appointment.

Question 6

Do you accept referrals by email?

Accepted Answer

No. Due to cybersecurity concerns, online safety risks involving children and adolescents, referrals are not encouraged via standard email. See FAQ No.2 for approved methods.

Question 7

How long are wait times?

Accepted Answer

Current wait times for both new and follow-up appointments are approximately six to eight weeks. If you feel your child may need to be seen sooner, or you want to run your situation by staff, please contact reception. 0408 784 345

Question 8

Do you provide urgent or same-day acute appointments?

Accepted Answer

Tamworth Kids Health is not an acute care service and does not routinely provide same-day emergency review.

If a child is acutely unwell or there are urgent concerns regarding safety, breathing, dehydration, severe pain, mental health or significant deterioration, families should seek review through their GP, local emergency department or emergency services as appropriate. Call 000 for urgent assistance.

In some situations, a child may have an individualised acute management plan previously discussed with Dr Pearson. Where this applies, families should follow the agreed plan.

Do you see children from outside Tamworth, what about Telehealth appointments?

Yes we can use Telehealth services. We see children and families from across regional and rural NSW. We are run by Tamworth based people. This includes our paediatrician. We understand the relationship between distances and health care.

Note: Initial appointments are generally conducted face-to-face to allow comprehensive assessment and planning. Once management is established and clinically appropriate, follow-up care may include Telehealth appointments and shared care arrangements with your local GP.

What is our area of Medical Expertise

Tamworth Kids Health provides specialist paediatric care across developmental, behavioural and general paediatric medicine from infancy through adolescence.

In addition to ADHD, autism and neurodevelopmental assessment, we see children with a broad range of medical concerns including growth and nutritional issues, feeding difficulties, sleep concerns, chronic abdominal pain, headaches, fatigue, recurrent illness, complex neurodevelopmental conditions and multisystem presentations.

If my child is being assessed for ADHD or autism, will we also need to see other services?

Accepted Answer

Our assessment model is designed to provide comprehensive specialist paediatric evaluation without requiring routine involvement from multiple providers at the outset.

Where additional expertise would meaningfully contribute to care (eg suspected specific learning disorders, Intellectual disability), it is recommended in a targeted and individualised manner.

Can schools, psychologists or allied health providers refer directly?

Accepted Answer

Schools, psychologists and allied health providers are welcome to share information relevant to a child’s care. However, a referral from a GP or another medical specialist is required for specialist paediatric care and Medicare rebate eligibility.
